After the use of a jewelry wheel, a residue accumulates on the surface of the wheel. As the residue which has accumulated on the surface has long since dried and hardened in the air, if the workpiece is directly polished on the next occasion of use, it will cause scratches on the workpiece, which will affect the effect of the polish.
Therefore, after the cloth wheel has been in use a long time, it is well to clean the polished wheel before using it, and before the next use.
Preparations before the cleanup.
1.Put on goggles and a dust mask to protect yourself from debris flying off the cloth wheel during the cleaning process.
2.Get a cloth wheel organizer. The fabric wheel finisher, which consists of a wooden handle and a steel serrated row, looks like a comb with metal teeth and is designed specifically to clean and trim tools used to maintain polished fabric wheels. Finish with a wheel organizer, which helps to quickly scrape away wheel residue.
Cleaning steps
1.The handheld organizer should have its teeth lined up and placed on the lower side of the cloth wheel to trim the cloth wheel.
2.Start the machine and remember not to press the cloth wheel organizer against the surface of the wheel, you will need to wait for the cloth wheel to rise to a certain speed to start dressing.Conditions such as the amount of feed and the speed during dressing are recommended to be the same as during polishing, and a cloth wheel after dressing can be effective in improving polishing efficiency.
3.When the spinning speed of the cloth wheel is raised to its highest speed, gently press the cloth wheel organizer against the polished wheel for 10 seconds at a time, then release for a few seconds, then press the cloth wheel organizer against the polished wheel again. This process is repeated until the residue on the polished wheel surface is removed.
*If the surface of the polished wheel is uneven, press the cloth wheel organizer onto the outermost layer, then trim slowly until the cloth wheel surface is even.
*If you do not have enough strength to hold the wheel organizer firmly against the wheel due to excessive rotation, you can try pressing your forearm against the table where the wheel is located, which provides a better support point for stability.
4. As the residue of the used polished wheel surface will stick together with the polished wheel fiber and form a block, repeat the above process at point 3 until the polished wheel surface is restored to its original softness and the wheel fiber can be easily separated.
*The cleaning process takes 1 – 5 minutes, depending on the degree of bonding of the residue from the polishing wheel. To avoid excessive cleaning and trimming, stop the wheel regularly and check its dressing progress by running your finger over the surface of the wheel.
*If the surface of the polished wheel has been cleared of the residue, the surface of the polished wheel restore to its original softness, but is still blackish-gray in places. It does not mean that the polishing wheel has not been cleaned, it may simply be that its fibers have been dyed.
5. After removing the residue from the surface of the wheel, stop the wheel and use scissors to cut off any excess fibers sticking out of the surface of the wheel, especially check the edges of the wheel. If these excess fibers are not cleaned, the subsequent polishing quality will be affected.
6. After cutting off the excess fibres, the machine is started again, the loose fibres are shaken off from the surface of the polishing wheel, and the cleaning is complete.
