Mirror polishing is a common processing technology in metal surface treatment. Making the workpiece surface into a mirror surface is not only more beautiful, but also more popular with consumers.
At present, the common mirror polishing methods are: mechanical polishing, chemical polishing, electrolytic polishing, ultrasonic polishing, fluid polishing and other polishing methods.
The above polishing methods are widely used now. This article mainly introduces mechanical polishing.
Mechanical polishing is a polishing method that heating the workpiece surface by cutting and friction, and removing the convex part of the surface of the workpiece by plastic deformation to obtain a smooth surface; generally using polishing wax (liquid), polishing wheel, sandpaper, etc., mainly by manual operation and auto-polisher.
The effective of automatic polishing equipment is better than manual operation. The occur of automatic polishing machines can solve the problems of “dirty, messy, poor” and hidden safety hazards in manual polishing, and the quality of products is also more stable.
If you want to reach mirror surface, pls don’t miss the following step:
1-Grinding
The purpose of grinding is to gain flat and smooth surface. After grinding , the surface still have some extremely thin and even scratches.
Rough Polishing
The main purpose of rough polishing is to deal with rough surfaces and irregular shapes and make them into proper shapes.
Usually using sisal wheel with rough polishing wax, to generate high temperature on the metal surface by high pressure and polishing wheel. Under the action of high temperature, to achieve the surface flatness and remove the grinding marks by the metal ductility.
*Tips: Sisal wheel suitable for rough polishing of ferrous metal and stainless steel products; rough polishing of non-ferrous metal should choose oil-treated cloth wheel with high gram.
Middle Polishing
Deal with the residual wear scars after the rough polishing process, further improve the surface flatness and gloss of the workpiece.
Pay attention to the following points when choosing polishing tools:
1.Choosing a rougher pure cotton wheels.
2.Choosing wax: Big white wax better than Big blue wax(Blue wax using in middle polishing) better than small white wax/blue wax using in middle polishing (if you want a better effect)
3.The direction of middle polishing should cross coverage the rough polishing direction at a small angle.
2-Surface Polishing
Polishing is a process to get mirror surface. Usually using soft polishing wheel repeatly polishing the workpiece surface to correct the smallest unevenness on the surface.
The purpose of polishing is to remove the stayed thin scratches after grinding. An ideal polishing surface should be smooth, bright, non-scratch, just like a mirror.
Fine Polishing(Mirror Finishing)
Deal with the residual wear scars after middle polishing, and more refined processing is carried out to finally polish a mirror effect.
Pay attention to the following points when choosing polishing tools:
1.Choosing a finer polishing wheel, usually use pure cotton bleached cloth wheel, this kind of cloth has finer warp and weft yarns and fine softness, which is excellent for mirror finishing.
2.Choosing small white wax( different from middle polishing white wax) and high gloss blue wax (different from middle polishing blue wax)
3.The final step needs to use a clean cotton wheel or a flannel wheel to rub the surface after mirror-finished and wipe it clean to ensure that the mirror surface will not be damaged.
